Nasal Allergy- Allergin rhinitis

Nasal allergy or allergic rhinitis, is an inflammatory condition caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander. Symptoms include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy eyes and a scratchy throat. This condition can significantly impact daily life, causing discomfort and affecting sleep. Diagnosis involves evaluating patient history, conducting allergy tests and assessing symptom patterns. Treatment typically includes antihistamines, nasal sprays and avoiding known allergens. In more severe cases, allergy shots or immunotherapy may be recommended. Effective management helps alleviate symptoms and improve overall quality of life.

Signs and Symptoms

Runny Nose

A runny nose is characterized by frequent clear nasal discharge. This symptom occurs as the nasal passages produce excess mucus in response to allergens. Persistent nasal dripping can lead to irritation and discomfort.

Nasal Congestion

Nasal congestion results in a blocked or stuffy feeling in the nose due to inflammation of the nasal tissues. This can make it difficult to breathe through the nose and may cause a sensation of pressure or fullness. Chronic congestion can affect sleep and overall comfort.

Sneezing

Sneezing is a common symptom of allergic rhinitis, often triggered by exposure to allergens. It involves sudden, forceful expulsion of air from the nose and mouth, frequently occurring in multiple bouts. Persistent sneezing can be disruptive and indicate ongoing exposure to allergens.

Itchy Eyes

Allergic rhinitis can cause itching, redness and watering of the eyes due to allergen exposure. This eye irritation often accompanies other symptoms like a runny nose and can lead to discomfort and blurred vision. Managing eye symptoms is essential for overall allergy relief.

Itchy Throat or Ears

An itchy or scratchy throat and ears may occur when allergens irritate the throat and surrounding areas. This can cause discomfort, coughing, and difficulty swallowing. Addressing this symptom is important for maintaining comfort and preventing additional complications.

Postnasal Drip

Postnasal drip involves mucus accumulation in the throat as it drips from the nasal passages. This can lead to a sore throat, persistent cough, and a feeling of mucus stuck in the throat. Effective treatment of postnasal drip helps alleviate these secondary symptoms.
