Protect Your Ears from Fungus This Rainy Season

As the rainy season arrives, the increased humidity creates a perfect environment for fungal infections, including otomycosis, or ear fungus. Otomycosis is a fungal infection affecting the outer ear canal, often caused by fungi like Aspergillus or Candida. It can cause itching, pain, discharge, and sometimes hearing loss.

To prevent otomycosis, keep your ears dry and clean. Avoid inserting objects like cotton buds, which can damage the ear canal and facilitate fungal growth. After exposure to water, such as during swimming or bathing, dry your ears thoroughly with a towel. Using earplugs during swimming can also help keep water out. If you've under gone an ear surgery previously - protect your operated ear from water entry by using a clean cotton puff.

If you suspect an infection, look for symptoms like itching, discomfort, and discharge that may appear white, yellow, or black. Early intervention is crucial. Visit a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. They may prescribe antifungal ear drops or recommend cleaning the ear canal to remove fungal debris.

Maintaining ear hygiene and promptly addressing any discomfort can keep your ears healthy throughout the rainy season. Stay vigilant and protect your ears from the risks of otomycosis
